MMM...Tomatoes

I love to can tomatoes, I find it to be very relaxing. I don't know how I developed such a strange illness.

This is the first batch, I got twenty six pints of quartered and three quarts of juice, the next batch will be crushed, yummm...., and then its on to salsa and maybe chili sauce.

I had to  add this picture, the beets from the garden are so pretty, and large, and tasty this year.

The Garden

O.K. here are the pictures  I promised.

This is where the ten thousand pounds of zucchini and crookneck come from everyday.

Mmm...Tomatoes...

You can't tell from the picture but each of these cabbages is now about the size of a basketball.

The watermelon that is dark is about a week away from being ripe, the other one might be ready around the end of September, I can't wait.

I have no clue what kind of squash this is, it grew itself in my compost pile and out of curiosity I decided to let it live. I sure hope it tastes good.

The peaches and pears are coming along really well, although the peaches are a couple of weeks behind this year compared to previous years.

Nasturtiums are not only very pretty but they are also very yummy and nutitious:

The Garden is starting to really produce now, soon it will be time to start putting up the tomatoes. I have a lot of pumpkins and spaghetti squash...yum...and I have a few watermelon that should be ready in a couple of weeks.

I am so neglectful, I promise to post some pictures soon (hopefully before winter).

T. Boone Pickens

I think his plan looks very interesting. There are more videos on the pickensplan.com site.

29 June 2008

I was out wandering through the garden with the camera this morning to take pictures of the vegetable garden when I got distracted by this pretty little thing. I thought I would share.

This is Ramses and Steve you can tell they can't stand each other.

And its Ramses again, he can be quite moody, in fact I sometimes think he's a little bipolar.

This is Moses, he was mad at me when I took this picture because I interrupted his quiet time.

And this is Zilly. She would love to peck out your eyes. Don't be offended, and don't think you are special either, that's just how she is.

Well, even though its the middle of June, there are still a few Iris blooming. This one happens to be my favorite, it smells like pink cotton candy. I wish they would bloom all year.

I just love summer. I love it when it gets really hot and the air becomes heavy with scent of all the blooming flowers and freshly mown grass and then there's the rain, there are very few things that can compare to a summer thunderstorm here in the desert.
I truly love living here in the desert it feels so different than any other place I've been, I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, its just different.

The flowers are spectacular this year; I guess its all the rain we've had the last couple of weeks.
This is a variety of Palmer's Penstemon. It has a lovely scent and gets more and more beautiful every year. This particular patch is about three feet across and is in the front garden. It reseeds quite heavily and there are enough seedlings from last year that this patch should be almost double in size when it blooms next spring.
